One of the reasons why he remains so hated is because he dismissed predictions of the stock market crash, and was convinced that the warning signs merely signaled a passing recession. While these economic problems had been on the rise for years beforehand, the responsibility of rebuilding the economy fell to Hoover while he was in office.
